Karen Chew

My first ever business, conducted with a few friends. They were moving out of Hong Kong, at least for a long time. This was a bit of a fundraiser for our "farewell party," and we made handmade ornaments and jewellery, set up our stand and just kind of started talking to anyone who would listen.

This was my first pitching competition. I entered YEX with my business idea "Drive Me Crazy", a gamified navigation app I thought of during traffic jam. Conducted online in 2021, I won the Second Runners-up. Watch the video below!

Let me just tell you a quick story:

I used to be afraid of going anywhere alone. One day, at my grandparents' place, my grandma took a handkerchief and turned it into a small teddy bear. I named it Katy, from my name Karen Chew Thong Yan. More on it here.

My second time joining YEX, I pitched my KaTY Bears under the Existing Business Category. I won the Champion title and a 100% scholarship at Dwi Emas International School.

The Semarak International Innovation Challenge was conducted in 2023. I pitched the gamified navigation app, Drive Me Crazy, and won the Silver Award.
